I was at an age where everyone thought I was crazy to even think of returning to karate.68 years old and 30 years since I had last trained. This was when I found myself standing barefoot in the dojo of 'Kyoto Shotokan Karate Club'. 9 months and two gradings later, I can speak with nothing less than gratitude and admiration for the skills and teaching ability of the club instructor 'Sensei Steve Ashby'. The combination of a friendly club with excellent traditional teaching is hard to beat, and I am proof that age is no barrier. Especially, if like me, you have the right teacher. Thank you Sensei.....

My son, Tom (10) joined Kyoto SKC in Jan 2011. He enjoys it thoroughly and looks forward to every lesson. Watching from the sidelines, I've been really impressed with the 'Shotokan' style. Rather than just sit around, I felt the urge to get involved so I also joined the Club, soon after Tom. It's a great activity for a 'father and son' to get involved in. Sensei is a superb teacher who gives clear direction, has an eye for detail and has a patient & very supportive style of coaching. It is an excellent, family orientated club.

When my 7 year old daughter Megan first started at Kyoto Shotokan Karate Club she was very shy. Now two gradings later she is more confident and self-assured.
Steve Ashby has nothing but patience with the younger children and is especially good at inspiring young shy white belts. With the friendly, family atmosphere I have seen plenty of parents step forward too and join their children in learning Karate.
I can't recommend the club enough.

Myself and my two sons started Karate under Sensei Steve Ashby for different reasons but we all agree that it is the best thing we have done together. Sensei is very patient with both children and adults alike and really helps you understand the movements and why you are doing the movements. It is all coming together for us now. I would recommend joining to anyone of any age. Stacey, Callum and Kalen.
